We perceive our world through the indriya-s, which are our senses. There are five jnana indriya-s which are 'taste, touch, smell, sight and hearing'. The sole purpose of the indriya-s is to collect information from the external world and transmit this information to our manas mind, the external aspect of our mind which is closest to the outside world. This information is then processed by our buddhi mind which is the intellegent aspect of our mind. The inner mind then transmits this processed information to our consciousness. That is why I know if I like something that I taste, touch, smell, see or hear.
We are dedicating the next five eNewsletters to each indriya, this issue is all about the 'taste indriya' and the taste treats which you can experience here on Maui.

SWEET TASTES OF MAUI
We are so lucky to live maui! We can just walk out of our homes and grab fresh fruit off the trees for cooking or a snack on the way to the beach! Trees provide such tasty trees like mangos, papayas, apples, bananas, starfruit, avocados, coconuts, oranges, lemons, and limes. Even macadamia nuts!!
There are so many benefits to eating fruit. They contain potassium which is a vital mineral that helps replenish electrolytes and reduce stress. Vitamin B6 calms the nervous system. If your are feeling stressed, eat a banana!
Mangos are packed full of beta carotene, pectin, vitamin C, vitamin E, niacin, potassium, fiber, and iron. It also contains Vitamin A which is believed to help protect the body from heart disease and prevent cancer.
On any given day of the week, we can find a farmer's market that provides us with fresh Maui grown fruit and veggies. This makes it so easy to make healthy food choices!
