I just returned home from my first yoga retreat. Only a day and a half, but very far removed from every day life. High in Kanaio with a magnificent, panoramic view of Kahoolawe and the Big Island that you can get from no where else. But the retreat was not about the view without, but the view within. Silence and meditation were encouraged, but we had good laughs and fantastic food at meal times, and got to know a few other very interesting people. I didn't know what to expect as far as what we would be doing - nervous that it might be too much for me, but I was pleased to find out that the mix was just right. The yoga sessions were in a very comfortable yurt, and they focused on chanting, pranayama and meditation more than we usually do in class. The result was total relaxation and serenity. The evening was really nice too. A great dinner was provided, and we all enjoyed it around a couple of fires at the home of our hosts, which is wonderfully unique, to say the least. The evening ended with chanting and meditation. It was so fantastic to be with a group of nice people who were all feeling that peace. And boy, do the stars shine brightly out there ! We also had plenty of time to ourselves to walk around alone, or with a friend, and just contemplate the beauty we were surrounded by, and be grateful for the chance to be there and remember the many good things in our lives. I came home feeling like I had moved my yoga practice to a different plane. When I went to a regular class the following day I felt like nothing could rock me - no wobbles at all ! So ... there is the first testimonial I have ever written in my life ! Thanks Ted !
