Halepohaku, Maui
Saturday & Sunday
Spring May 02 - 03, 2009
Summer July 25 - 26, 2009
Fall October 24 - 25, 2009
The weekend retreats to Halepohakua distance you and will freshen your perspective on daily life. We invite 10 like-minded students to join us to this relaxing, quiet and spiritual environment. This is a meditative practice using asana, pranayama, chanting (Yoga Sutra-s) and seated meditation to achieve stillness and peacefulness. These retreats allow us to purify our mind with meditation and quietness. This tapas rewards us the 'fruits' of Yoga and are available only to Yoga 1, 2 & 3 students who are practicing regularly with Yoga Awareness.
The Wellness Retreats are weekend programs scheduled in spring (pre pitta kala), summer (pre vata kala) and fall (pre kapha kala). We study and experience Yoga and Ayurveda at these different times (kala) of the year and how they affect our body and mind. Throughout the weekend Ted Surman teaches the Yoga classes and Sylvia Whelchel gives Ayurveda (heat) treatments.
The Yoga Awareness Retreats are in Halepohaku, an incredibly beautiful area that is situated 3,000 feet on the slopes of Mt Haleakala, Maui. Halepohaku is a magical and quiet place to retreat, where you can immerse in the practical and philosophical teachings of Yoga and Ayurveda, while enjoying the simplistic beauty of the ‘land’.
Here in Halepohaku you can enjoy the benefits of practicing Yoga (asana, pranayama, pratyahara, dharana) and experiencing Ayurveda (svadhana - heat treatments), while having free time to wander the remote hills above, relax and read, and to delight on the wholesome food which is served throughout the weekend.
Staying in this beautiful and natural environment is simply magical and transforming ! This remote location distances us from our normal daily life, where we are welcomed onto the 'land' and into Life Wheel, a spiritual community. Life Wheel is a small group of people who collectively have a strong yearning to journey with Awareness, every step enhancing this awareness through their humble and quiet disciplines. Seeking a seamless integration of the journey into everyday life they incorporate the energy of the land to assist them.
Deluxe Camping
The few residents of Halepohaku live in tents, domes and yurts. They have unique living and cooking facilities which incorporate nature into their creative living spaces. Students experience deluxe camping and are able to share in this opportunity of living comfortably in nature. Each student has an individual tent erected on a timber platform, nestled privately amongst the trees and landscape.
Even though Halepohaku is considered the dry side of Maui each tent has a water resistant canopy. The bedding provided includes an air bed, pillows, sheets, blankets and towels. There are outside flush toilets and hot showers for your convenience. Delicious, organic and healthy meals are prepared by our hosts and we all dine together.
