Yoga is the state of focus and peacefulness which gives us a healthy body and strong mind.

Raja Yoga means to shine the mind. We practice Kriya Yoga (action of yoga), Ashtanga Yoga (methods of yoga) and Samkhya Yoga (philosophy of yoga) to purify and enlighten ourself.

Yoga has a good effect on the body and mind. Practicing yoga regularly contributes to a sense of well-being by incorporating a well sequenced practice of asana (body), pranayama (breath) and meditation (mind). All of our yoga classes, privates, workshops and yoga trainings are instructed by Yoga Awareness certified yoga teachers.

Yoga Class Format
ASANA is for body flexibility and strength. PRANAYAMA is for breath and life-force awareness. MEDITATION is to reduce distraction and increase clarity. A regular Yoga class of asana, pranayama and meditation will give you a better understanding of your weakness and strengths. Practicing Yoga to your comfortable maximum ability is the special effort required for balanced transformation.

Class level ?
The group class is suitable for all levels. We apply the appropriate application of Yoga for each student, within the context of a group class. A regular practice of asana, pranayama and meditation gives you a better understanding of your weakness and strengths. Practicing to your comfortable maximum ability is the special effort for balanced transformation.

What to bring ?
Wear comfortable clothing for Asana practices and a sweater to keep warm after class. Bring your sticky mat or purchase one from the studio. We provide floor rugs and blankets. Always have plenty of bottled water. Due to allergies and sensitivities that other students may have please do not use perfumes.

Health Condition ?
Yoga classes are for everyone in normal health condition. We teach to the level of each student and adapt asana movements when needed. Students who have chronic or acute health conditions, sports injuries, handicapped or pregnancy are required to notify us in advance. Yoga Online Home Practice
The purpose of doing a Yoga practice at home is to help you develop your Yoga sadhana (practice), which is a tapas (self discipline). It is something that you would like to start doing in your daily life and we need to develop the samskara (habit) of daily practice, like brushing your teeth.

Studio Yoga Privates
Come enjoy Yoga privates with Tedd Surman and Masumi at our Honolulu studio overlooking Diamond Head, Kapiolani Park and the Waikiki beaches. We also offer follow-up online Yoga Private sessions to support you at home.

Waikiki Parking
Free parking is available during your Waikiki private sessions. We start promptly on time so please arrive 5 - 10 minutes before your session. Oahu has traffic problems at certain times of the day and sometimes it's easy to get lost. Allow yourself plenty of time, arrive early and enjoy our peaceful studio.

Raja Yoga Series – Level 1,2,3

The Raja Yoga “Body and Mind” Series is exclusively for graduates of previous Yoga Awareness Self-Development Trainings and Teacher Trainings. In this advanced workshop series, Tedd Surman reinforces the teachings of Patanjali from the Krishnamacharya–Desikachar lineage. Participation is limited to students who have successfully completed prior Yoga Trainings.

These small-group sessions offer a meaningful opportunity to reconnect with your yoga sanga and deepen your personal practice. Each 2-hour workshop includes asana to strengthen the body, pranayama to expand life force, and meditation to purify the mind. This regular weekend sadhana is a personal commitment that becomes transformative over 10 consecutive weekends, or you may select individual workshops to fit your schedule.

Each Raja Yoga workshop hours may be submitted to Yoga Alliance for YACEP continuing education credits, helping you fulfill their ongoing Yoga Teacher training requirements.

SATURDAY: Raja Yoga Body (2 hours per workshop)
Raja Yoga Body sessions consist of 2 hours of asana practice per workshop. You may attend individual sessions or commit to 5–10 consecutive weekends for a discounted rate.
SUNDAY: Raja Yoga Mind (2 hours per workshop)
Raja Yoga Mind sessions consist of 2 hours of pranayama and meditation practice per workshop. You may attend individual sessions or commit to 5–10 consecutive weekends for a discounted rate.

The purpose of the home training is to develop your Yoga sadhana, which is a tapas to understand and experience the effects that Yoga has on your system. Schedule a private session with a Yoga Awareness teacher, either online or in-person. Afterwards we email a detailed sequence drawing for you to practice daily at home and at the end of each week submit a weekly sadhana report for 4 continuous weeks. PRICE: 1x (60 mins) private session + 1x sequence drawing + worksheets $150.
YOGA TEACHER CLINICS
4 WEEKS HOME PRACTICE
Yoga Teacher written critique. The purpose of this home training is to help you develop your Yoga Teaching sadhana. Choose and complete one of the ‘maha-vinyasa’ sequences that you practiced during your Yoga Teacher Practicum. Draw and submit a report of your written verbal asana instructions. Your class sequence will be critiqued by a Yoga Awareness teacher and comments will be made on your report and PDF emailed for your review. PRICE: 1x (90 mins) critique + worksheets $150.

Yoga Awareness offers yoga training in Hawaii, Japan and India. These trainings are ideal for students who are limited with time but are wanting to dive deeper in their self realization. You will gain a holistic understanding of caring for your body using the ancient and profound methods of Raja Yoga.

This is not Western style exercise aerobics, rather it is a meditation on 'Self' and how to best care and strengthen yourself using the time-proven teachings from the Veda-s. Yoga Awareness trainings are the authentic methods of teaching which focuses on asana (body), pranayama (breath) and dhyanam (mind). Each yoga training can be taken separately or together as consecutive trainings. On successful completion training hours can be credited to future Yoga Teacher trainings.
