Back to health and balance with Ayurveda and Yoga.
I recently returned from a long work trip to the mainland. The trip was the culmination of a very stressful period of months in my life during which I continued to fee more and more cut off from the meaning in my life. I was physically, mentally and emotionally exhausted and felt depressed and lethargic. I had done many things, rest, treatments, meditation, and therapy to improve my state, but nothing was easing my suffering. I took a week off work to rest in hopes that I would feel like myself again – energetic, enthusiastic and ready to meet the challenges of life. After three weeks, I was still at home on the couch, with no change in my condition, and by this time, I had my annual vacation, a month long trip abroad, coming up in three weeks time. I knew that if things continued as they were that I wouldn’t be able to go on this trip at all. That’s when I sought out the help of Ted, Yoga Awareness, as a sort of last resort. I’d known of Ayurveda but considered it to be primarily a diet and herbal supplement oriented discipline and didn’t put much stock in the bodywork element of the ancient science. I worked with Ted for two weeks straight, doing yoga every day, and having treatments five days a week. Even after the first Abhyanga (oil bath) treatment I felt significant improvement in my mood, energy and quality of sleep. By the fifth treatment I began to feel like myself for the first time in four months. At the end of my two week health retreat I felt like a new version of myself. I had regained my enthusiastic approach to life, but I felt more grounded than I had ever felt before. The combination of Yoga Asana practice and the sublime oil baths (truly an astounding alchemical, elemental balancing that goes way beyond the parameters of normal bodywork), returned me to aliveness and joy. Now, as I write this, I’m in India, in the midst of a dream vacation, feeling balanced, healthy and glowing. Even the hours of jet travel required to deliver me around the world have been more easeful than I ever could have imagined before. I’m profoundly grateful to Ted for the care, intelligence and wisdom that they bring to the Yoga instruction and Ayurvedic treatments that he offers. I recommend Yoga Awareness to the highest degree.
