Uprooted and guided
A little over a year ago, I uprooted myself from a caustic living environment as a self-preservation strategy. Obviously, I needed a change, but I was only vaguely aware of the extent of work I should expect of myself now that I was free of the source of my recurrent psychological trauma. Since I was also suffering from a painful and fairly new upper back injury, I resolved to try and address the cause of that discomfort first. I happened to be on Maui and the universe presented Ted Surman and Yoga Awareness at just the right moment. Combining Yoga and Ayurveda over this past year I have reimagined the way I think, live and feel. Not only am I largely pain free, but also I understand how to align myself with the world around me in order to contribute positively and constructively. I begin everyday with these powerful tools, and I calmly focus my awareness so that the rest of my day is usually smooth sailing. I knew almost right away that I wanted to pass on these teachings to others, because they have made a profound difference in my life. I embarked on the teacher trainee journey this year, and so far my instincts are correct: Ted is a wonderful guide. He is committed to his teachers and his students in the most inspirational ways, and I am truly blessed to study with him and the Yoga Awareness sanga. One challenge for me: being aware of what the big picture looks like in any situation I find myself. I used to get caught up in what everything meant in relation to me. Now I understand I'm part of the whole, and I need to relax more to go with the flow. I am opening to love and awareness with a gracious heart, and I feel complete and free. I am able to welcome each moment and every breath as a gift and an opportunity to inhale love and exhale acceptance.
