Yoga Alliance RYT certifications?

Q: What are the Yoga Alliance RYT 200 & 500 certifications?

A: We would like to announce that Yoga Awareness is now a RYS 500 (Registered Yoga School) with Yoga Alliance for both the RYT (Registered Yoga Teachers) 200 hour and RYT 500 hour Yoga trainings.

During 2010 in India my teachers directed me to register all of our trainings with Yoga Alliance, so that we meet the American requirements for their 200 and 500 hour certification. This proved to be an involved process of reshaping our previous Sadhana one-year training and combining the Teacher Internship six month training. The importance of this for me was to uphold the integrity of teachings that I have been receiving from India over the last decade and not dilute it just to fit the American 'box'. Now days we are seeing a large variety of Yoga trainings in America that strongly focus on the exercise and performance aspects, which is vastly different to what Yoga Awareness is presenting to the West from our Eastern understanding of Yoga.

At the end of 2011 I finally succeeded with this registry process and during my trip in December I worked with the teachers to fill some of the gaps in our previous curriculum. We all feel that the new training formats, tailored to meet Yoga Alliance RYT 200 and 500 hour requirements, are superior to our previous Sadhana and Internship trainings.
