Shine the Mind

Raja Yoga means “to shine the mind.” Over a month has passed since finishing week #3 of training with Yoga Awareness. For myself, this four weeks have been filled with many life-changing events including moving to another part of the world and a new job--to name a couple. Amidst these changes daily homework assignments provided a backdrop. The focus on our homework...

Yoga Immersion Training at Honolulu Studio

“Yoga Immersion” was the first in a series of trainings offered at Yoga Awareness this past week in downtown Honolulu.
Our instructor Tedd Surman focused on Kriya yoga—the most ancient form of yoga and one of its foundational teachings; “the Indian philosophy of ‘attention and ease’ which is fundamental to a healthy and transformative Yoga practice.”...

Your Light - Aloha from Peggy in Pukalani, Maui Yoga Awareness

“Don’t you know it yet? It is your light that lights the world.” - Rumi

When yoga is practiced regularly and efficiently, including āsana, prānāyāma, chanting and meditation, not just our physical body will benefit. A regular yoga practice opens up and strenghtens our knowing of our own true self, or puruṣa. Reminding us that everything we need is...

Hello Spring! - Tips & Aloha from Peggy in Pukalani, Maui Yoga Awareness

Spring is a season of new beginnings, renewal, and growth. A natural opportunity for a fresh start is sensed by our physiology; our bodies long for lightening things up, cleansing ourselves of any accumulated imbalances, and rejuvenate. In nature and in us, there’s a renewed sense of joy and inspiration. But beware, we may also be more likely to catch a cold or...

Less is more - Aloha from Peggy in Pukalani, Maui Yoga Awareness

In āsana, less is more. Simple doesn't have to mean boring. Simple is in fact where it's at.

When a yoga practice is based and focused on breath, it is accessible. Only then we allow ourselves to slow down and be deeply absorbed by what we are actually doing. With simple postures, like the one pictured here (vajrāsana to child pose), when they are executed...
