Yoga during menstruation?

Q: Is it ok for women to practice yoga during menstruation?

A: My view, and that of my teachers in India is that each woman knows best. We honor their decision and if a woman chooses to practice then we offer her a yoga practice that will be beneficial for her at this time of the month. There is no regulation, as commonly heard in the Western world, that says women should not practice during a period, full moon, etc.

Am I ready to teach?

Q: Am I ready to be a Yoga teacher and to teach?

A: That's a good question and this is where the teacher / student role is important. In India a teacher says that you are now ready to teach. In America the student is often dictating this.

A 200 hour certification is only the first step to teaching.

The 3 week training on Maui is where a teacher / student relationship develops and where you develop a sanga (community) with other students who are also on the path of teaching.

Q: Can I use the Yoga Awareness teacher certification to teach Yoga anywhere I go?

A: The Yoga Awareness YAT (Yoga Ayurveda Training) certification is a standard established in 2002 by Yoga Awareness (USA), Yoga Raksanam (INDIA) and Ayu Wellness (INDIA).

The purpose was to set a standard honoring the Eastern origins of Yoga and Ayurveda, and then apply these ancient teachings with integrity in a modern day Western environment. The pre-requisites for achieving these high standards...

How does a training transform me?

Q: How does a Yoga and Ayurveda training transform me?

A: Yoga and Ayurveda are the ancient healing modalities of India and all the civilizations which ancient India influenced. The Sadhana training is for personal development and teaches us how to use these healing modalities in our modern day life. 

As we gain these tools of Yoga and Ayurveda, like having two hands, we can then apply them skillfully for our own self care and transformation.

Can I apply my RYT 200 to the Yoga Awareness training?

Q: I have already done a RYT 200 hour Teacher training. Can I apply this to the Yoga Awareness 600 hour training?

A: Congratulations for completely your other training. We appreciate the effort and commitment which you have already made. The Yoga Awareness YAT certification can be used to apply for registration with Yoga Alliance (RYT 200 & RYT 500), however the Yoga Alliance hours gained from other Yoga schools may not be used for studies with Yoga Awareness

I have done Yoga Awareness trainings, can I use this for YAT and RYT certification?

Q: I have done the Yoga Awareness Body Therapy or Self Therapy training. Can I use this towards the new Yoga Awareness YAT and Yoga Alliance RYT certifications?

A: Yes, any student who has previously graduated from the Yoga Awareness trainings can continue with ongoing Yoga Ayurveda trainings at anytime.
