Enjoy yoga at our Oahu locations in Waikiki, Ala Moana and Downtown Honolulu-Chinatown.
Join us for your regular yoga class, practicing with locals and visitors to the Hawaiian Islands. All students, from beginner to advanced, are welcome for our therapeutic and strengthening yoga classes.
Style of Yoga?
• Raja Yoga is the ‘Teachings of Patanjali’. Patanjali has given us Kriya Yoga (attitude) and Ashtanga Yoga (method) to attain a state of focus and peacefulness.
• Yoga Awareness is of the Krishnamacharya lineage (Desikachar), American Viniyoga (Gary Kraftsow), and Yoga Raksanam (DV Sridhar, Radha Sridhar, Viji Vasu).
• Viniyoga was a name given by Desikachar to Western students in the late 1980’s. It describes the appropriate use of Raja Yoga to progressively develop a student.
Yoga Awareness Teachers
Yoga Awareness is an umbrella for teachers who study in the Krishnamacharya lineage. We have been fortunate to receive the Yoga Teachings of Patanjali and the ways in which these teachings have been transmitted through T.Krishnamacharya (1888-1989). It is now our opportunity to share these gifts with you.
Yoga Awareness (YAT), Yoga Alliance (RYT)
Yoga Awareness YAT certification is a standard established in 2002 by Yoga Awareness (USA), Yoga Raksanam (INDIA) and Ayu Wellness (INDIA). The purpose was to set a standard honoring the Eastern origins of Yoga and Ayurveda, and then apply these ancient teachings with integrity in a modern day Western environment. Yoga Awareness is a registered Yoga School (RYS) with the Yoga Alliance, which is the national organization for Yoga in the United States.
Yoga Class Format
ASANA is for body flexibility and strength. PRANAYAMA is for breath and life-force awareness. MEDITATION is to reduce distraction and increase clarity. A regular Yoga class of asana, pranayama and meditation will give you a better understanding of your weakness and strengths. Practicing Yoga to your comfortable maximum ability is the special effort required for balanced transformation.
Yoga Class Prenatal
Yoga Awareness offer Prenatal Yoga classes, supporting pregnant women in our Hawaiian community and the future generations to come. The regular practice of Yoga will help all women on the path of pregnancy and giving birth, and enhance the bond between mother and baby. The prenatal Yoga class is also available for any student who wishes to experience a restorative, nourishing and inwardly focusing practice.
The group class is suitable for all levels. We apply the appropriate application of Yoga for each student, within the context of a group class. A regular practice of asana, pranayama and meditation gives you a better understanding of your weakness and strengths. Practicing to your comfortable maximum ability is the special effort for balanced transformation.
What to bring?
Wear comfortable clothing for Asana practices and a sweater to keep warm after class. Bring your sticky mat or purchase one from the studio. We provide floor rugs and blankets. Always have plenty of bottled water. Due to allergies and sensitivities that other students may have please do not use perfumes.
